Barre Classes & Applied Functional ScienceAccording to 3D Fitness owner, Lisa Weigand, the Barre is a perfect addition to what we already promote at the studio. It's challenging, but feels good; an hour of hard work, but fun! One of the principles we recognize in Applied Functional Science is when the body senses stability, it will give you more mobility. This explains why utilizing the barre can work so well. The barre gives you the confidence to perform the exercise. As an example, whatever depth you are able to squat or lunge, holding onto the barre will allow you to increase this depth, enabling you to reach deeper in the tissues and still be successful returning to a standing position. Engaging more of the muscle area by first loading (or stretching) more of the tissue. Thus, more of the force is distributed throughout the body during the movement while incurring less stress on the joints. Training this way with various angles, depths, speeds, etc., is amazingly effective.
What to expect in a typical Barre-Lattes ClassThe music begins promptly, so you may want to arrive a couple of minutes early to have time to visit, store your belongings in a cubby, purchase for $1, or refill your water bottle at our cooler, etc.
First, a dynamic warmup progresses from slow to fast-paced, with simple movements designed to teach what will be repeated later in the workout. Next comes an emphasis on sculpting the arms. 1-5 lb hand weights are often used to ensure a nice upper body workout and activation from the core. The hour will include a large variety of movements that are mostly driven by the feet or knees, such as calf raises, squat variations, diamond plies, curtsy lunges, pulsing arabesque/attitude combos, 3D kicks, mountain climbers, plank jumps, and finally, (thank goodness) some standing stretch time! Don't worry, our instructors will keep you going! The Pilates method of exercise can be performed from the floor (mat), on equipment, such as the chair or reformer, or arc barrels, or from standing at the tower or the barre. We have several tools to create an even deeper connection to the core of the body and will assist you in exploring what your body can do in safe environment. No workout is complete without a cool down period, so we like to finish with some gentle stretching. You can expect some variation each class. Yours may even include some yoga poses. Before you leave, please ask any questions you may have regarding the session. We want you to feel educated about why each movement sequence was chosen or if you have any concerns. Then be sure to let your instructor know of the next class you'll be attending, so we can better plan for you. It's not a class without all of you! In the event that we only have one person signed up for class, we will contact you to inform you of the class being cancelled. However, because your success in your personal fitness program is very important to us, we will make every effort to offer a satisfactory alternative. |
