_ The first
week of May I broke my left ankle/fibula.The orthopedic doctor’s note said that I had to wear a cast on my leg for 2½ months and then endure an
orthopedic boot until the middle of September. After that I could expect to be in rehab for 2 to 4 weeks!
Well, this sounded like forever because I am typically a very active person, and exercise has always been a constant in my life. This Spring & Summer I was to have extra responsibilities on my plate including helping care for my 2 year old grandson. To make matters worse, I was going to be traveling quite a bit, and living mostly out-of-town, in Houston. Finding a rehab program to meet my erratic schedule was going to be an additional challenge.
However, I was determined to do some type of workout because I knew the lack of exercise would almost definitely result in weight gain
and loss of muscle mass. Jogging was a favorite activity, but that was certainly out of the question for an unknown amount of time. I had some experience with Pilates, so I thought that may be the place to start. I found Lisa on-line, called and explained my predicament. She was very encouraging and able to work with my schedule.
I am so
lucky to have found Lisa at 3D Fitness. The 1st day I walked into the studio I had a cast on my left
leg and used crutches to help me walk.Lisa immediately assessed my injury and started a workout program that
strengthened my core and leg muscles to be better able to carry the weight of my
injured leg without over-stressing my good leg. Although we started with Pilates, Lisa used a variety of strategies and techniques from her functional science training to keep my recovery steadily progressing.
It’s
amazing and miraculous; not only did the Doctors remove my boot 3 weeks before
they had planned, but I am stronger in
my upper body, I have lost weight, and gained muscle mass! Best of all my
body is toned and healthy.
I can
honestly say that Lisa was the one that made my road to recovery possible.I will forever be grateful!
